November 17, 2009 -- LANSING - Michigan Governor Jennifer M. Granholm today announced that the Michigan Economic Development Corporation (MEDC) is helping 10 companies grow in Michigan and is backing two brownfield redevelopment projects. Combined, the 12 projects are expected to create 2,245 new jobs (883 direct and 1,368 indirect), retain 11,254 jobs, and generate over $791 million in new investment in the state.    » read more »

Rep. Capuano Calls on President Obama to Create Jobs with TARP Funds

Sends Letter to the President Urging Action

November 16, 2009 -- Representative Mike Capuano today called on President Barack Obama to use the remaining funds from the Troubled Asset Relief Program (TARP) to create jobs.

In a letter to the President, Rep. Capuano noted that the unemployment rate is at a "26 year high" and asked the President to "direct the remaining TARP funds towards projects that put more Americans back to work." With $210 billion in TARP funds currently unspent, and another $50 billion expected to be repaid in the next year, Rep. Capuano urged that these funds should be used for job creation.

"TARP was established to address the financial crisis," state Rep. Capuano in his letter. "I do not believe we can reasonably say that the job of TARP is complete."    » read more »

Recovery Act Funds Continue to Create Jobs in San Antonio

October 30, 2009 -- Washington, DC - Today, the Recovery Accountability and Transparency Board released the first data on job creation by the "projects and activities" portion of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 (HR 1), also known as the stimulus bill. The new data, made public at www.Recovery.gov as required by Sec. 1512 of HR 1, reported 19,572 jobs directly created in Texasso far, including 398 in Texas's 20th Congressional District. Polymer Manufacturer to Locate New Facility near Plaquemine, Creating over 500 Jobs

PLAQUEMINE – Today, Louisiana Governor Bobby Jindal joined SNF Holding Co. (SNF) officials to announce that the company will construct a new water-soluble polymers manufacturing facility in Iberville Parish. Once fully operational, the plant will employ over 500 permanent, full-time employees with an average salary of $57,400 and involve capital investment of at least $362 million.

Treasury and HUD Announce $419 Million in Recovery Act Funds to Create Jobs, Provide Affordable Housing

May 22, 2009 -- WASHINGTON – As part of the Obama Administration's effort to create jobs and ease pressures on the housing market, the U.S. Department of the Treasury today announced more than $330 million in American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (Recovery Act) funding to spur the development of affordable housing units in Kansas, Michigan, Ohio, Wisconsin, and Puerto Rico. The Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) also announced $83 million for housing development in Ohio. CEA Releases New Report on Measuring Recovery Act Progress Creating, Saving Jobs

May 11, 2009 -- The Council on Economic Advisers today released "Estimates of Job Creation from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009," a report detailing how the Administration will measure progress creating and saving jobs under the Recovery Act.

Work began on the methodology in the earliest days of the Administration and within days of the Recovery Act being signed into law, Chairman Romer met with top economists from numerous agencies to develop a simple, conservative and accurate model for measuring progress. The model pairs a macro approach based on projected and actual spending with direct reporting by recipients to improve the level of accuracy.

Colorado Gov. Ritter Signs Major Job-Creation Legislation
