Bill To Help Consumers, Makers Of Energy-Efficient Doors, Windows

October 19, 2009 -- WASHINGTON, D.C. – Senator Jay Rockefeller, a West Virginia Democrat, and Sen. Chuck Grassley, an Iowa Republican, have introduced legislation that would make it easier for consumers to take advantage of a tax break in the stimulus package intended to encourage the purchase and manufacture of energy-efficient doors, windows, and skylights.

“I have seen firsthand how the tax credit can make a difference, both for the West Virginia industries that produce and sell these energy efficient windows and for the families who use them. We need to make it easier for people to understand and be able to take advantage of these tax credits, so they can get more for their money, particularly during these tough economic times,” said Senator Rockefeller.    » read more »

Senators Feinstein, Grassley Introduce Legislation to Prohibit Cell Phones in Federal Prisons

Bill aims to prevent inmates from using technology to commit crimes outside of prison walls

October 5, 2009 -- Washington, D.C. –U.S. Senators Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.) and Charles Grassley (R-Iowa) today announced legislation to prevent inmates from using cell phones to commit crimes from inside prison walls.

The bill would close a loophole in federal law by prohibiting the use or possession of cell phones and wireless devices in federal prisons. The bill also would classify cell phones and wireless devices as contraband material. Anyone who provides, or attempts to provide, an inmate with a cell phone could face imprisonment of up to one year.    » read more »

Senator Grassley Legislation To Keep Up Fight Against Meth Clears Senate

June 8, 2009 -- WASHINGTON – Senator Chuck Grassley today continued his efforts to keep meth off the streets and out of the homes of Iowans. Legislation he co-sponsored with Senator Dianne Feinstein to help control meth precursor chemicals, passed the Senate tonight by unanimous consent. It will now be sent to the House for consideration.

Iowa has been hit harder than most states by the meth epidemic. Passage of the Combat Meth Act in 2006 provided us with a good deal of success in reducing the domestic meth supply, but it’s tough to stay a step ahead. Senator Chuck Grassley: $4.65 Million to Iowa for Disaster Recovery

June 1, 2009 -- WASHINGTON – Senator Chuck Grassley announced today that St. Luke’s Health Care Foundation and Coe College in Cedar Rapids received a grant totaling $4.65 million from the U.S. Department of Commerce’s Economic Development Administration.

“Getting the Cedar Rapids community back on its feet after the 2008 floods is a priority,” Grassley said. “This is a nice step forward for St. Luke’s and Coe College.”

The funds will help pay for the construction of a steam heating plant to be shared by St. Luke’s Hospital and Coe College. These entities previously received steam from a plant that was destroyed by the 2008 flooding.    » read more »

May 21, 2009 -- WASHINGTON – Senator Chuck Grassley today introduced legislation to ensure the biofuels industry is not penalized for the Environmental Protection Agency’s use of non-scientific data when determining greenhouse gas emissions. Grassley’s bill improves several provisions with the expanded Renewable Fuels Standard that were enacted in the 2007 Energy Independence and Security Act.

President Obama Signs Anti-fraud Legislation

May 20, 2009 -- Senator Chuck Grassley today issued the following comment after President Barack Obama signed legislation he authored with Senators Patrick Leahy and Ted Kaufman. The Fraud Enforcement Recovery Act will help protect Americans from fraud as well as recover taxpayers’ money lost to fraud.

The legislation bolsters existing tools and increases resources available to federal investigators and prosecutors to combat fraud. It also includes the most significant update to the federal False Claims Act since 1986 when Grassley authored amendments to the False Claims Act which have helped the government recover more than $22 billion to the United States treasury.
