Michigan National Guard Facilities to Receive $7.85M in Federal Recovery Funds

Recovery Act dollars will fund maintenance, energy efficiency upgrades at three Army National Guard bases in Michigan

March 4, 2009 -- LANSING - Michigan Governor Jennifer M. Granholm today announced that three of Michigan's Army National Guard facilities will receive $7.85 million from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, the federal economic recovery plan designed to create jobs and stimulate the nation's economy.

The recovery dollars will fund infrastructure improvements, facilities maintenance, and operational costs at three Army National Guard training and support centers in Michigan. All recovery plan funds announced today will be in addition to the annual federal appropriation for maintenance of National Guard facilities in Michigan.

"Federal recovery dollars will enable us to create jobs and help citizens" said Governor Granholm. "By making much-needed repairs to the buildings and facilities where Michigan's Army National Guard soldiers live and train, we can honor their service and ensure that they are well prepared."

The Army National Guard facilities in Michigan that will share a total of $7.85 million dollars for improvements are:

- Fort Custer Training Center in Augusta: $2.25 million to modernize water, sewer and electrical systems;

- Lansing Reserve Forces Support Center and Joint Forces Headquarters in Lansing: $1.796 million for energy efficiency improvements on three buildings;

- Camp Grayling Military Training Center in Grayling: $3.8 million to modernize water, sewer, and electrical systems, improve energy efficiency, and make road improvements.

"These additional dollars will help us address a backlog of maintenance projects and improve energy efficiency in many of our buildings," said Major General Thomas Cutler, adjutant general of the Michigan National Guard. "As a result we can provide high quality training facilities for our men and women of the Army National Guard while reducing our long-term energy costs."
