McNerney Reminds Seniors to Review Medicare Drug Coverage Plan Before December 31st
November 16, 2009 -- Washington, D.C. – Today, Congressman Jerry McNerney (CA-11) reminded seniors that they have from November 15th until December 31st to take advantage of the open enrollment period for Medicare’s prescription drug plans. During the open enrollment period, seniors can choose to enroll in or modify their existing prescription drug plan.
“I urge seniors to closely review all of the Medicare prescription drug plans and use the open enrollment period to select the plan that is right for them,” Rep. McNerney said. “With 47 specific plans available in California, seniors have a number of options to choose from before December 31st.”
“Medicare prescription drug plans are an important part of the overall Medicare program and can save seniors money,” continued Rep. McNerney. “I have been a strong supporter of lowering prescription drug prices for our seniors and I will continue advocating for this coverage.”
Seniors can contact the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services 24 hours a day at 800-633-4227 or visit http://www.medicare.gov to find out about the costs and coverage levels each plan offers. Prescription drug plans adjust their costs and coverage levels yearly and the open enrollment period is the only time of year seniors can enroll or change their plan.
Residents of the 11th Congressional District are encouraged to contact one of Rep. McNerney’s two district offices if they have questions about Medicare prescription drug benefits or the open enrollment period.
