October 13, 2009 -- Washington, DC - Congressman John D. Dingell (D-MI15), lead sponsor of H.R. 3200, the “America’s Affordable Health Choices Act of 2009,” made the following comments after the U.S. Senate Committee on Finance passed its comprehensive health insurance reform bill this afternoon:

“Today’s vote in the Senate Finance Committee brought us much closer to making the comprehensive health insurance reform our nation desperately needs a reality.

"Yes, there are differences between the Senate Finance bill and our House bill that we will have to work through, but all of the bills passed out of Congressional Committees would bring the sweeping changes to America’s health insurance industry we’ve needed for decades.

"Perhaps the most noteworthy shared trait: all the Committees passed bills that create quality, affordable health care for tens of millions of Americans who right now have no coverage. There are important battles ahead, and those of us supporting a strong public option will have to continue our hard work, but we clearly have common ground from which we can build upon. I want to congratulate Chairman Baucus for helping create momentum and gaining critical support for this effort.”
