Rep. Eric Massa votes to refer accusations against Chairman Rangel to Ethics Committee
10/09/09 -- WASHINGTON, D.C. - This past Wednesday, Rep. Eric Massa joined with 246 members of Congress including six Republicans (including one from New York) and voted to refer complaints of impropriety against Rep. Charles Rangel to the bi-partisan House Ethics Committee for review. Since that time, articles have appeared pointing out that the ethics investigation into Chairman Rangel has expanded.
"Chairman Rangel is a good friend, in fact, he is a very good friend and it pains me to have had to vote to compel the Ethics Committee to expand its investigation, but doing the right thing is what leadership is about," said Rep. Eric Massa. "Chairman Rangel is the Dean of the New York Delegation and a true war hero, but I think it is important for the Ethics Committee to have a thorough look at all accusations against him. Ours is a nation where the accused are innocent until proven guilty and I believe in the rule of law. Chairman Rangel himself has referred this case to the Ethics Committee at its inception and by joining others in the House in sending these additional issues to the Ethics Committee."
"I’m asking that this case be expedited for the good of all concerned."
