Nine-year deal means as many as 300 new jobs in Lake Charles.

October 1, 2009 -- WASHINGTON -- United States Senator Mary L. Landrieu, D-La., today, lauded the awarding of a $3.8 billion KC-10 Contractor Logistics Services (CLS) contract by the U.S. Air Force to Northrop Grumman. The nine-year contract is estimated to bring between 150-300 full-time, skilled jobs to the Lake Charles area.

"The contract awarded by the Air Force will be a major boost to Louisiana's economy, particularly the Lake Charles area," said Sen. Landrieu. "The awarding of this contract is a show of confidence in the skilled workers of Southwest Louisiana."

The KC-10 logistics contract supports the Air Force's 59 KC-10A air refueling aircraft and three Dutch KDC-10 refueling aircraft. This contract will provide on-going maintenance and modifications to the aircraft, provide important spare parts and perform other critical support tasks required to keep the airplanes flying. The KC-10 has played a prominent role in supporting the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, in addition to humanitarian operations around the world.

The contract awarded by the Air Force is the result of a two-year competition, in which Northrop Grumman beat out incumbent Boeing Corporation.
