September 14, 2009 -- Senators Chris Dodd (D-CT) and Joe Lieberman (ID-CT) announced today that Connecticut will receive $11,251,400 in stimulus funding to create green jobs and implement energy efficiency and conservation programs. The State of Connecticut, as well as the cities of Stamford and West Haven, will receive the economic recovery funds, which are being allocated under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009.

“Today, we are reminded yet again that protecting our environment and creating jobs are not mutually exclusive – in fact, with the right investments, they can go hand in hand. This important funding will not only create hundreds of jobs for the people of Connecticut, but will help preserve our environment for future generations,” said Dodd. “Today’s grants are a major investment in Connecticut’s economy, our environment, and our energy future.”

“Connecticut has long been a leader in encouraging alternative energy development and promoting energy efficiency,” said Lieberman. “These grants will enable Stamford, West Haven, and the CT Department of Energy to fund projects and activities which will help boost our local economies and reduce our reliance on fossil fuels.”

The funding for Connecticut is part of a $354 million package of Efficiency and Conservation Block Grants announced today by the Department of Energy that will provide funding directly to states to implement programs that lower energy use, reduce carbon pollution, and create green jobs locally. According to the Department of Energy, Connecticut’s funding will be administered by the Office and Policy and Management, which will pass along 90 percent of the funding to 143 local cities and counties across Connecticut. Each of these local governments will receive at least $25,000, with additional funding according to population.
