Senator Brown on $2.96 Million ARRA Wastewater Grant for Fremont, Ohio
Recovery Act Grant Will Improve Water Infrastructure to Create Jobs, Boost Development in Fremont
June 23, 2009 -- WASHINGTON - U.S. Senator Sherrod Brown (D-OH) joined U.S. Commerce Secretary Gary Locke today to announce the release of a $2.96 million recovery grant for the city of Fremont, Ohio. The federal funds, made available through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009, will be administered through an Economic Development Administration (EDA) grant to invest in critical wastewater infrastructure improvements to serve local businesses and create new jobs.
“Last year I discussed water and sewer infrastructure needs with Mayor Overmyer at a roundtable I held in Fremont," U.S. Sen. Sherrod Brown said. "Improving Ohio’s aging water systems is key to economic growth. These Recovery Act funds will help Fremont attract jobs and spur future economic development in the region.”
“The Obama Administration is committed to creating jobs, encouraging innovation and improving our nation’s economic competitiveness,” U.S. Commerce Secretary Locke said. “This grant will help put people back to work and boost private investment by providing the critical infrastructure needed to retain the city’s largest employer and to attract new businesses and industry to the region.”
