Senator Dick Durbin Announces $16 Million in DOT Funding for Illinois Airports
June 2, 2009 -- WASHINGTON, DC – U.S. Senator Dick Durbin (D-IL) announced today that the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) has awarded $15,978,467 in grants to five Illinois airports.
“Today’s grants will allow airports in Illinois make needed improvements and upgrades to help them serve travelers more safely and efficiently,” said Durbin. “These important projects will also create good paying jobs throughout Illinois during the current construction season.”
The following airports will receive funding under today’s announcement:
* Quad City International Airport: $3,750,000 in funding for runway rehabilitation;
* State of Illinois: $1,391,000 in funding for the State Block Grant Program which will be used for land acquisition by the DeKalb Taylor Municipal Airport;
* Greater Peoria Regional Airport: $3,050,000 in funding to construct a service road and install perimeter fencing;
* Greater Peoria Regional Airport: $1,487,967 in funding to construct a terminal building, acquire land for approaches and reimburse the airport for land previously acquired for Runway 31 protection zone;
* Chicago / Rockford International Airport: $4,000,000 in funding to rehabilitate a taxiway;
* Central Illinois Regional Airport at Bloomington-Normal: $750,000 in funding to construct a snow removal equipment building;
* St. Clair County: $1,549,500 in funding to acquire deicing equipment and rehabilitate a runway at Scott Air Force Base.
