June 02, 2009 -- WASHINGTON -- United States Senator Daniel K. Inouye announced today that the City and County of Honolulu will receive a $1 million grant from the U.S. Department of Labor to help underprivileged young parents obtain education and occupational skills training that lead to employment.

The grant will allow mothers, expectant mothers, and fathers ages 16 to 24 to receive training that will help provide a better future for themselves and their children. Support services, which include child care, transportation and health care, will also be available to participating young parents.”

“The initiatives funded by this grant will give parents whose young lives have already been challenged by homelessness, abuse or separation from their own parents a chance for a brighter future,” said Senator Inouye. “The programs represent the crucial first step toward a stable life with financial stability for themselves and their children.”
