ANNAPOLIS, MD (June 1, 2009) – Maryland Governor Martin O’Malley today issued the following statement following the U.S. Department of Education’s announcement regarding the approval of Maryland’s State Fiscal Stabilization Fund application, resulting in more than $589 million in Recovery funds for the State of Maryland:

““In Maryland, we are using federal Recovery funds in the exact way President Obama and Congress intended – to protect our number one ranked public school system and invest in our community colleges.”

“I want to thank President Obama, Secretary Duncan and Maryland’s federal delegation for working with the state of Maryland as we continue to improve public education in every region of our state, and make sure our teachers have the resources they need to educate Maryland’s next generation of leaders.”
