Infrastructure, Federal Funds Appropriation Bills Signed by Governor

May 26, 2009 -- DES MOINES – On the final day of the bill signing period, Iowa Governor Chet Culver today signed the last components of the I-JOBS initiative into law. Governor Culver signed the legislation at the Des Moines City Hall, adjacent to the Principal Riverwalk, an infrastructure project receiving funds through I-JOBS.

“For everyone who has confidence in the future of Iowa and faith in the people of our great state, I-JOBS is your victory. And for everyone who wants to create good jobs, help flood victims, rebuild our communities and literally work our way out of the recession, I-JOBS is a big step forward.” said Governor Culver. “Together, these two bills include the final $55 million of funding for I-JOBS. Today, we’re keeping the promise I made to Iowans, as we complete the process of putting Iowans back to work, rebuilding our state, and our economy.”

Governor Culver signed the following two bills:

* House File 820: Appropriates over $424 million of federal recovery funds to be used to avoid layoffs and provide essential services at both the state and local levels.
* House File 822: Appropriates more than $450 million dollars from the Rebuild Iowa Infrastructure Fund (RIIF) to be used for economic development and infrastructure projects.

A total of $55 million from these two bills will be dedicated to I-JOBS.
