Dow Chemical Company Statement on Committee Passage of The American Clean Energy and Security Act
Midland, MI - May 22, 2009 -- The Dow Chemical Company issued the following statement in response to action last evening by the House Energy and Commerce Committee approving the bill for further consideration by the House of Representatives:
The Dow Chemical Company congratulates Chairman Waxman, Chairman Markey and members of the House Energy and Commerce Committee on approving The American Clean Energy and Security Act of 2009.
Dow believes that U.S. leadership is essential to fostering a global solution to rising greenhouse gas emissions. Sound and predictable climate policy will not only protect our environment but will also unleash investment in new technologies that will advance energy security and sustainability.
Dow is encouraged that the current bill reflects many of the recommendations found in the U.S. Climate Action Partnership (USCAP) Blueprint for Legislative Action. This framework has served as a valuable roadmap for developing climate legislation that is environmentally effective and economically sustainable.
In the coming weeks, we look forward to working with members of Congress of both parties to further develop effective climate change policy that will reduce greenhouse gas emissions, protect consumers, spur innovation and drive investment in a sustainable energy future.
