Senator Murray Announces Over $6 Million for Lead Paint Cleanup in Washington State
Department Housing and Urban Development funding will help eliminate lead paint in King County, Spokane, and statewide
May 19, 2009 -- Last week, U.S. Senator Patty Murray (D-WA) announced that $6,725,000 has been made available for Washington state by the Department of Housing and Urban Development to help eliminate dangerous lead-based paint from low-income homes and protect young children from lead poisoning. This funding was included in the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 (ARRA).
“Investing in lead paint cleanup will ensure that Washington state’s children remain safe and protected from lead poisoning,” said Senator Patty Murray. “This recovery funding will create jobs, boost the economy, and is a strong investment in the health and safety of our families.”
As the Chairman of the Transportation and Housing Appropriations Subcommittee overseeing funding for the Department of Housing and Urban Development, Senator Murray worked to ensure that investments in housing were included in the Recovery Act. Senator Murray voted to pass the Recovery Act on February 13th. The bill was signed into law by President Obama on February 17th.
