NH Gov. Lynch, Attorney General Ayotte Encourage State, County, Local and Non-Profit Agencies to Apply For Stimulus Grants

May 15, 2009 -- CONCORD - New Hampshire Governor John Lynch and Attorney General Kelly A. Ayotte today encouraged state, county, local and non-profit agencies to apply for criminal justice grants funded through the federal stimulus act. These grants will be administered by the Attorney General’s Office.

The goal of this funding is to assist agencies and non-profits in the criminal justice community impacted by the recession, which will help to preserve and create jobs.

“The national recession continues to impact the state and local communities and we must work to ensure that even during these difficult economic times we continue to keep New Hampshire the safest state in the nation,” Gov. Lynch said.

“In times of economic uncertainty and with the potential for increasing crime, we need to continue to support these programs and services that are helping meet the needs of New Hampshire’s crime victims and criminal justice agencies,” Attorney General Ayotte said.

These funds are being made available through three federal programs: the Edward Byrne Justice Assistance Grant program, the Victims of Crime Act program, and the Violence Against Women Act program. These three programs help provide support for criminal justice and victim service related programs throughout the state.

Funding under the Byrne Justice Assistance Grant program will be used to support a number of criminal justice related activities, including the formation of a statewide ‘Cold Case Unit’ at the state level and the funding of recidivism reduction programs, Child Advocacy Centers, and District Court prosecution at the local level.
