X Games Skateboarder Ryan Sheckler Trades Board for Golf Club for Charity
Ryan Sheckler Hosts First-Time Golf Tournament with Brody Jenner, Mia Hamm, Kevin Federline, Bode Miller Among Those Attending
July 22, 2008 -- Together with Wasserman Media Group, pro skateboarder Ryan Sheckler will host the debut of the Ryan Sheckler X Games Celebrity Skins Classic to be held Tuesday, July 29, at the Trump National Golf Course in Palos Verdes, Calif., as part of the mission of Sheckler’s non-profit organization – The Sheckler Foundation. In addition to Sheckler’s foundation, four other charities will be benefiting from the proceeds of the tournament. ESPN has been involved with and supported all four charities over the years. As part of this event, ESPN will be donating its skins to the Athlete Recovery Fund.
"I've always had a desire to help the kids who support me in my career and may not have had the same opportunities that I did," said the X Games multi-gold medalist, Ryan Sheckler. "I have reached a point where I have the ability to give back, and I'm honored to have such a great response for this tournament from my professional colleagues and friends."
Celebrities and their foursomes will tee off for an18-hole tournament and players will be pitted against one another in match play for the opportunity to win a $10,000 skin for the charity of their choice on each hole. Players will also take part in a putting contest for additional prizes with an awards ceremony and dinner to follow in the evening.
"We have been fortunate to have Ryan Sheckler compete in the X Games since 2003, and we're excited to partner with him and the Wasserman Media Group to benefit a number of charities devoted specifically to action sports,” said Chris Stiepock, general manager and vice president, X Games franchise. “We look forward to growing this tournament into an annual X Games tradition for years to come."

Anthony Anderson, Audrina Patridge, Kendra Wilkinson, Kevin Federline, Brody Jenner, Verne Troyer, Mia Hamm, Vicki Hurst, Bode Miller, Baron Davis, Carey Hart, Kevin Robinson, Cris Judd, Sal Masekela, Mason Aguirre, Jamie Bestwick
Ricky Carmichael, Chad Kagy, Eric Koston, Jeremy McGrath, Kevin Robinson, JJ Thomas, Travis Pastrana and Dave Mirra will all take to the course with Ryan to raise money for a number of charitable organizations including Ryan's own.
The Charities
Charities benefiting from this tournament include Wings for Life, which funds scientific research into spinal cord injuries; Road 2 Recovery, which provides financial assistance to seriously injured motocross and supercross athletes and their families; The Athlete Recovery Fund, an organization which provides financial support for injured BMX, Moto and Skateboard athletes; and Boarding for Breast Cancer, a non-profit, youth-focused organization that works to create awareness about the disease.

The Sheckler Foundation was founded as an avenue for Ryan Sheckler, his family, friends and business associates to give back to the community and industry that they are so grateful to. The community is mostly comprised of children and their parents, who as his fans buy his products, attend his events, and watch his show.
