The movie will air in HD with 5.1 channel surround sound and Spanish audio as a presentation of "The Wonderful World of Disney," SATURDAY, JULY 5 (8:00-10:00 p.m., ET) on the ABC Television Network. (Rebroadcast. OAD 8/4/07)
When Mary Cep, aka Lola, moves with her family from the big city of New York to a small suburb in New Jersey, her ego takes a hit when she realizes she's no longer the most popular girl in school. That honor is held by Carla (Megan Fox). However Lola does find a friend in Ella (Alison Pill), with whom she shares a love for the band Sidarthur. Lola means to oust Carla from her "most popular" title by trying out for the school's play, "Pygmalion," and she succeeds in nabbing the lead role, which Carla had wanted. As the war of popularity escalates, word spreads that Sidarthur has broken up and there's to be a farewell concert. Carla brags that she already has tickets to the sold-out event, so Ella and Lola take a train to New York City, hoping to score tickets from a scalper.
The film stars Lindsay Lohan as Mary "Lola" Cep, Adam Garcia as Stu Wolf, Glenne Headley as Karen Cep, Alison Pill ("Pieces of April") as Ella Gerard and Eli Marienthal ("American Pie 2") as Sam. Released in 2004, it was directed by Sara Sugarman ("Mad Cows"). The screenplay was written by Gail Parent, based on the book by Dyan Sheldon ("Confessions of a Teengage Drama Queen"), and is a production of Walt Disney Pictures in association with Confessions Productions.
