Iowa Governor Culver Adds Eight Counties To Disaster List in Wake of Flooding
39 counties now under a Governor’s Emergency Proclamation
June 9, 2008 -- (DES MOINES) - Today, Iowa Governor Chet Culver added eight counties to the list of counties that have been proclaimed emergency disaster areas. The additional counties are: Mitchell, Clayton, Kossuth, Wright, Hamilton, Bremer, Linn, and Iowa.
The list previously included: Fremont, Page, Montgomery, Adams, Union, Clarke, Marion, Johnson, Jasper, Polk, Dallas, Crawford, Boone, Story, Marshall, Tama, Benton, Dubuque, Delaware, Buchanan, Blackhawk, Hardin, Webster, Humboldt, Franklin, Butler, Cerro Gordo, Floyd, Chickasaw, Winneshiek and Worth.
The Governor has now established 39 counties under a Governor’s Emergency Proclamation. This allows state resources to be used at no cost to local governments.
The Governor's proclamation activates Iowa's individual disaster assistance program. Iowa’s individual disaster assistance program helps people with low incomes. Iowans with household incomes of up to 130 percent of federal poverty guidelines may apply for a grant of up to $3,300 to help recover from flood damage. The governor emphasized that this is a reimbursement program, meaning that applicants must include receipts when applying for help.
