Monthly Installments Of Free Chapter Downloads Leading Up To Fall Publication Of Bill Tancer's "Click: What Millions Of People Are Doing Online And Why It Matters"

New York, May 29, 2008 - As part of a unique experiment, Hyperion and ABCNEWS.com have partnered with Bill Tancer, General Manager of Global Research at Hitwise, the world's leading online competitive intelligence company, and author of the upcoming September 2008 Hyperion publication, Click: What Millions of People are Doing Online and Why it Matters, to offer pre-publication monthly installments, beginning June 1 through September 1, of select chapters for free downloading.

On his new blog at ABCNEWS.com, "Click," available at: http://blogs.abcnews.com/click, Tancer will post examples from each month's free chapter, applying Hitwise data to news and current affairs. The same free chapters from Click will also be available for download on Facebook and MySpace through Books iRead (booksiread.org), a popular online social book community with over 1.5 million registered members. Tancer plans to build a vibrant community around Click by leveraging the social networking on Books iRead. Hyperion will then employ Tancer's Hitwise research from this experiment to develop a marketing campaign that targets readers for publication date, September 2.

This initiative is part of President and Publisher Ellen Archer's strategic vision for Hyperion and the commitment Hyperion has to digital marketing and online experimentation. "What generates and influences sales of a book is often a mystery to publishers," says Archer. "Hyperion's experiment with ABCNEWS.com will give us an unprecedented window into online consumer behavior and what ultimately may motivate a reader to go buy a copy of Click."

Bill Tancer is also scheduled to appear on ABC-TV's "20/20" on August 29 and "Good Morning America" on September 2 to discuss Click.

"As the Internet evolves into a dynamic environment where consumers generate content alongside traditional players, there is a unique opportunity for authors and publishers to take part in the online conversation," says Bill Tancer. "Click, which is about what aggregate Internet behavior can tell us about ourselves, is the perfect topic to begin that discussion."
