FEMA Responses to Severe Storms Across the Nation
May 27, 2008 -- President Bush signs a Major Declaration for the state of Iowa (Butler County) for Individual Assistance, emergency protective measures, limited to Direct Federal Assistance, and Hazard Mitigation statewide within hours after receiving the Governor’s request for an expedited declaration. FEMA continues to monitor the severe storms and tornadoes across the nation and work with federal, state and local partners to identify needs and resources needed to respond to respond to them.
Region 7/Iowa:
* FEMA Liaison deployed to State EOC.
* Mobile Disaster Recovery Center (MDRC) deploying to Parkersburg, IA from Joplin, MO to provide a command and control platform for FEMA responders.
* Two additional Mobile Disaster Recovery Centers will deploy to Camp Dodge, Johnston, IA.
* Region VII is deploying Individual Assistance, Public Assistance and Hazard Mitigation Preliminary Damage Assessment teams to the State Emergency Operations Center, to begin the assessments on Tuesday, May 27
* Within hours after receiving a request for an expedited major declaration from the Governor, the President signed a Major Declaration for the state of Iowa (Butler County) for Individual Assistance, Cat B (emergency protective measures) limited to Direct Federal Assistance, and Hazard Mitigation statewide.
Region 5/Minnesota:
* FEMA State Liaison Officer deployed to Hugo City Hall
* Incident Management Assistance Team (IMAT) partially deployed to support Liaison officer
* Governor toured damaged areas May 26
* Region V continues to monitoring situation and is ready to provide whatever assistance that is requested.
* Local preliminary damage assessments conducted May 26.
* No request from state for federal assistance at this time
