May 27, 2008 -- The Department of Defense announced today the death of a soldier who was supporting Operation Iraqi Freedom.
Sgt. Frank J. Gasper, 25, of Merced, California, died May 25 in Najaf, Iraq, of wounds suffered when his vehicle encountered an improvised explosive device.
He was assigned to the 3rd Battalion, 10th Special Forces Group, Fort Carson, Colo.
