April 18, 2008 -- CHARLESTON, W.Va. - West Virginia Governor Joe Manchin has ordered all national and state flags displayed at state facilities lowered to half-staff Sunday, April 20, and Saturday, April 26, in commemoration of the distinguished life and service of United States Army Staff Sergeant Jesse Adam Ault.

Staff Sgt. Ault was born in Wheeling, W.Va., grew up in Middlebourne, Tyler County, and was a 1998 graduate of Tyler Consolidated High School.

Staff Sgt. Ault, 28, died on Wednesday, April 9, in Baghdad, Iraq, from injuries sustained during a convoy mission in Tunnis, Iraq.

He served two tours in Iraq during his nearly 10-year career in the military.

Staff Sgt. Ault has been posthumously promoted to the rank of Staff Sergeant and will be posthumously awarded the Bronze Star Medal, the Purple Heart and the Combat Action Badge and has received many decorations and awards throughout his military career.

Visitation will be 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday, April 19, with the funeral services for Sgt. Ault beginning at 2 p.m. Sunday, April 20. The visitation and the funeral will be held at Bower Funeral Chapel, 1631 Bob White Boulevard, Pulaski, Va. He will be laid to rest at Highland Memory Gardens in Dublin, Va.

A memorial service will also be held 2 p.m. Saturday, April 26, at Tyler Consolidated High School, located just outside of Middlebourne, W.Va. on Rt. 18.
