SEIU: McCain Still Does Not Get It
April 10, 2008 -- WASHINGTON, DC—SEIU released the following statement from SEIU Secretary-Treasurer Anna Burger on Senator McCain’s economic proposals made today in New York City:
“John McCain still does not get it. America’s economy cannot recover if working families continue to struggle.

“His plan for helping families facing foreclosure simply continues the failed policies of the Bush Administration. Americans would have to fund their own assistance with the costs of a new loan while McCain uses tax dollars to guarantee the mortgage for lenders.
“Who decides if a family is deserving of help? The same lenders who wrecked our economy or the regulators who stood on the sidelines and let it happen?
“When McCain says government should not intervene he really means it should not help working families but should instead be heavily involved in padding the bottom lines of big business.”
Last week, SEIU and Burger sent McCain a “Dear John” letter announcing that SEIU members are offering their assistance as he develops his ideas for the economy. SEIU will continue sending him “Dear John” letters until he meets with them and offers solutions to put working families first.
