Missouri Governor Blunt Announces 47 Missouri Counties Approved for Disaster Public Assistance for March Flooding

April 9, 2008 -- JEFFERSON CITY -- Missouri Governor Matt Blunt today announced President Bush has approved his request for Disaster Declarations for Public Assistance for 47 Missouri Counties as a result of the March flooding.

“The damage assessment teams identified over $28.5 million in damaged public infrastructure such as roads, bridges, and critical facilities,” Gov. Blunt said.

“We are continuing to assist Missourians with the recovery process, and I appreciate President Bush’s fast response to my request for this federal assistance.”

The 47 counties approved for a Disaster Declaration for Public Assistance are: Barry, Barton, Bollinger, Butler, Camden, Cape Girardeau, Carter, Cedar, Christian, Crawford, Dallas, Dent, Franklin, Gasconade, Howard, Howell, Iron, Jefferson, Laclede, Lawrence, McDonald, Madison, Maries, Miller, Mississippi, Montgomery, New Madrid, Newton, Oregon, Osage, Pemiscot, Perry, Phelps, Pulaski, Reynolds, Ripley, St. Clair, Scott, Shannon, Stoddard, Stone, Taney, Texas, Washington, Wayne, Webster and Wright.

The State Emergency Management Agency will notify local officials and the media about meetings designed to explain the public assistance process and help officials begin repairing flood damaged infrastructure.
