Hawaii Governor Lingle Releases $1,660,000 For Improvements To Kula Hospital And Maui Memorial Medical Center

April 9, 2008 -- HONOLULU – Hawaii Governor Linda Lingle has released $1,660,000 for improvements to Kula Hospital and Maui Memorial Medical Center, which are public health facilities overseen by the Hawaii Health Systems Corporation.

“Ensuring Maui residents have access to affordable and quality health care continues to be a priority for my Administration,” said Governor Lingle.

“These projects will help maintain a safe and healthy environment for Maui patients and staff and equip the hospitals to remain operational during emergencies, including extended power outages.”

Kula Hospital ($875,000)

* $300,000 will be used to improve the hospital’s electrical system, including upgrading the emergency generators and fuel tank and connecting the emergency power systems to patient rooms. The project is scheduled to be completed in December 2008.
* $200,000 will cover the design of flooring upgrades. Project work is scheduled to be completed in June 2009.
* $200,000 will finance the design to replace the hospital’s cesspool and grease trap. The project is scheduled to be completed in June 2009.
* $100,000 will cover the design of plumbing upgrades. Project completion is scheduled for June 2009.
* $75,000 will finance the design and construction of roof work to prevent water leakage. The project is scheduled to be completed in October 2008.

Maui Memorial Medical Center ($785,000)

* $300,000 will finance the design to install two new generators. The project is scheduled to be completed in September 2009.
* $210,000 will cover the design of plumbing upgrades. Project completion is scheduled for November 2009.
* $200,000 will finance the design to re-roof the buildings and repair their exteriors. The project is scheduled to be completed in October 2009.
* $75,000 will cover the design to replace the laundry exhaust system. Project work is scheduled to be completed in November 2008.
