“I am pleased to sign a bill that increases public safety by regulating tobacco,” Governor Doyle said. “This bill will ensure that smokers reduce the risk they pose to themselves and others.”

Assembly Bill 717 requires each company that sells cigarettes in Wisconsin to meet a fire safety performance standard. The law also requires each cigarette company to register with the Department of Commerce and mark on cigarettes to indicate they meet the fire safety standard.

Governor Doyle thanked Representatives Jake Hines and Sheldon Wasserman, and Senators Judy Robson and Robert Cowles for their work on the bill.
