“Together with the Legislature, I have committed $1.5 million dollars in capital outlay for the New Mexico Border Authority’s new complex,” said Governor Richardson. “I am committed to investing in southern New Mexico and this new facility will foster international trade, tourism and will benefit residents."

Initially, the New Mexico Border Authority complex will occupy a 3,600-square foot building on seven acres. Future plans include a 1,300-square foot addition.

“Today is a proud day for the New Mexico Border Authority,” said Jaime Campos, the agency’s Director. “This new facility will symbolize the State of New Mexico to visitors and allow us to expand our efforts to bring prosperity to the state through increased trade and job creation."

“This is the beginning of a new economic era for southern New Mexico,” said Economic Development Secretary and NMBA Board Chairman Fred Mondragón. “The new facility will allow the Border Authority to operate at its full capacity and provide space for other entities to establish headquarters near the border with Mexico."

The New Mexico Border Authority was created by the Legislature in 1991 to encourage and foster economic development in the state by developing port facilities and infrastructure at international ports of entry. The New Mexico Border Authority is administratively attached to the New Mexico Economic Development Department.
