Last.fm Names F. Scott Woods Senior Vice President and Managing Director, Germany
03.27.2008 -- Last.fm, the online music discovery network owned by the CBS Corporation (NYSE: CBS.A and CBS), announced today that F. Scott Woods has been named Senior Vice President and Managing Director, Germany. Woods, who joins Last.fm from Google where he served as Head of Strategic Partnerships and Business Development, Northern and Central Europe, will oversee the expansion of the Last.fm presence in Germany, the country with the second largest Last.fm userbase after the U.S.
Woods will help set up a permanent Last.fm office in Hamburg, where he will manage all marketing, advertising sales and business development partnerships inside Germany and Northern Europe, as well as work with Last.fm's established German PR firm on communications opportunities.
Felix Miller, Last.fm co-founder, said: "We're extremely pleased to welcome Scott to the ever-growing Last.fm team. He brings to the company huge experience in digital and online strategy, a wealth of relationships, and an unmatched understanding of the European market. We're serious about creating more and bigger sales and business opportunities in Germany, a country that's always been hugely supportive of the Last.fm enterprise, as we look to increase awareness and grow our traffic across Europe. We're confident that Scott is the perfect person to take control of this, and we're excited to have him on board."
Woods joins Last.fm after four years at Google, where he was responsible for originating, structuring, negotiating and maintaining all strategic relationships with Google's ISP, Portal, Mobile, ecommerce, media and distribution (OEM) partners in Germany, Austria, Switzerland and Nordic markets.
The hiring follows a number of high profile German partnerships for Last.fm, which the social music network will consolidate and expand upon through their Hamburg office. These included deals with Spiegel Online and Bild.de, two of the biggest news publications in Europe which integrated Last.fm radio into their Web sites. These allow users of Spiegel Online and Bild.de to listen to customized radio streams from Last.fm's catalogue, the largest licensed free online music catalogue in the world.
Woods joins Last.fm as the most recent of a number of significant hirings for the social music network from companies including Yahoo!, Amazon and Skype.
