Los Angeles Dodgers to Receive Multiple Civic Recognitions
City, county, state, and federal honors for Dodgers' 50th anniversary
LOS ANGELES, 03/27/2008 -- The Los Angeles Dodgers will receive two resolutions, a commendation and a note on the Congressional record it was announced today. Frank and Jamie McCourt will accept a City of Los Angeles Resolution, a Los Angeles County Commendation, a California State Legislature Resolution and a Congressional Record. The ceremony will be held tomorrow, March 28, at 10 a.m. at Los Angeles City Hall - John Ferraro Council Chamber (200 North Spring Street, Room 340, Los Angeles, CA 90012).
The Los Angeles Dodgers are receiving these honors for their accomplishments on and off the field over the last 50 years. As the organization celebrates the 50th anniversary of its move to Los Angeles, civic leaders are expressing gratitude to the Dodgers as the heart of Los Angeles and wishing them another rewarding 50 years in of civic partnership.
Being presented in order, the city resolution will be presented by Los Angeles City Councilmember Ed P. Reyes. The Los Angeles County commendation will also be presented by Councilmember Reyes on behalf of County Supervisor Gloria Molina. The California State Legislature resolution will be presented by Assembly Assistant Majority Leader Kevin De León and State Senator Mark Ridley-Thomas. The Congressional record will be presented by Congressman Xavier Becerra.
The 2008 season marks the 50th Anniversary of the Dodgers moving to Los Angeles. The Dodgers will celebrate this Golden Anniversary with fans around the world through a series of historical, cultural and promotional events that are unique to Los Angeles and honor the legacy of the franchise and its players and the loyalty of the Dodger fans. Each month of the season the Dodgers will highlight a decade of the team's history in Los Angeles. In April, we will celebrate the 50s, in May the 60s, in June the 70s, in July the 80s, in August the 90s, and in September we will host a reunion of Dodger legends.
The Dodgers have won six World Championships, five of them in Los Angeles, and Dodger players from these teams and all the others will be honored throughout the season.
