Nader/Gonzalez Campaign Issued The Following Statement In Response To Inquiries From The Citizens And Reporters In Texas: Nader/Gonzalez Has Eyes On Texas

Tuesday, March 25, 2008 -- The Nader/Gonzalez campaign has its eyes on Texas this week:

Texas has a long history of independent politics and citizen activism. But it also has one of the toughest ballot access hurdles in the country. The state requires a Presidential candidate to get 44,000 valid signatures to get on a party line and 74,108 signatures to run as an independent. And the signatures must be of registered voters who did not vote in the presidential primary of either party.

And the candidates must collect and deliver those signatures by early May. So, it's a high hurdle. But not insurmountable. Texas is a red state. As in prior presidential elections, Texas will be out of play in the general election in 2008.

Only Nader/Gonzalez will stand with the people of Texas against the corporate power structure.
McCain/Obama/Clinton will not.

Only Nader/Gonzalez will stand with the people of Texas against the Trans Texas NAFTA Highway.
McCain/Obama/Clinton will not.

Only Nader/Gonzalez will stand with the people of Texas against the Enrons of Texas, and will launch a crackdown on corporate crime, fraud and abuse.
McCain/Obama/Clinton will not.

Only Nader/Gonzalez will stand for a single payer, Medicare for all, Canadian style health care system with free choice of doctors and hospitals.
McCain/Obama/Clinton will not.

Only Nader/Gonzalez will work to reverse U.S. policy in the Middle East.
McCain/Obama/Clinton will not.

But Nader/Gonzalez will not be able to compete in Texas against McCain/Obama/Clinton unless in short order we raise $150,000 and get a group of volunteers to help us overcome the two corporate party imposed ballot access hurdles that we must overcome.

"We want to give the people of the Lone Star State an opportunity to vote for a platform that helps them and their families and that challenges the corporate powers that increasingly dominate their daily lives," Nader said.

Nader urged Texans to visit the campaign's web site – votenader.org – to learn about the campaign and its platform – and to contribute and volunteer to help get Nader/Gonzalez on the ballot in Texas.
