"Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone" Airs in HD Television as the "ABC Saturday Movie of the Week," April 5
Monday, March 17, 2008 -- "Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone," a magical adventure tale nominated for three Academy Awards, will air as a presentation of "ABC Saturday Movie of the Week," APRIL 5 (8:00-11:00 p.m., ET). The feature will be broadcast in HDTV format with 5.1-channel surround sound and with Spanish audio. (Rebroadcast. OAD: 5/9/04)
Based on the first of J.K. Rowling's popular children's novels about Harry Potter, the live action family adventure film "Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone" tells the story of a boy who learns on his 11th birthday that he is the orphaned son of two powerful wizards and possesses unique magical powers of his own. Invited to attend Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, Harry embarks on the adventure of a lifetime and finds the home and the family he has never had.
"Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone" stars Daniel Radcliffe as Harry Potter, Emma Watson as Hermione Granger, Rupert Grint as Ron Weasley, John Cleese as Nearly Headless Nick, Robbie Coltrane as Rubeus Hagrid, Warwick Davis as Professor Flitwick, Richard Griffiths as Uncle Vernon, Richard Harris as Professor Albus Dumbledore, Ian Hart as Professor Quirrell, John Hurt as Mr. Ollivander, Alan Rickman as Professor Snape, Fiona Shaw as Aunt Petunia,Maggie Smith as Professor Minerva McGonagall and Julie Walters as Mrs. Weasley.
"Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone," released in 2001, was directed by Chris Columbus ("Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets," "Home Alone" series, "Mrs. Doubtfire") and the screenplay was written by Steven Kloves ("The Wonder Boys," "Harry Potter" series) based on the novel by J.K. Rowling. The film is produced by David Heyman. The executive producers are Mark Radcliffe, Michael Barnathan and Duncan Henderson. The ABC Television Network's HDTV broadcast of "Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone" will air in 720 Progressive (720P), ABC's selected HDTV format and 5.1-channel surround sound and with Spanish audio.
