March 14, 2008 -- WORCESTER – A Massachusetts Army National Guardsman was arraigned in Worcester District yesterday in connection with allegedly accessing and disseminating information from law enforcement data bases and the driving record of his former girlfriend. Earle Hoffman, age 39, of Lowell, is charged with Unlawful Dissemination of CORI Records (2 counts).

The matter was referred to the Attorney General’s Office in June2007, after Hoffman’s former girlfriend filed a complaint with Massachusetts State Police stating she believed Hoffman had been sending her harassing emails. Hoffman a member of the Massachusetts National Guard was also assigned to a Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) Task Force in Worcester. Investigators allege that Hoffman, while working at the DEA Task Force, accessed law enforcement data bases and license information of his former girlfriend and her then-boyfriend. Hoffman allegedly communicated to his former girlfriend information regarding previous restraining orders of her then-boyfriend. Hoffman was not authorized to access this information.

Hoffman was arraigned yesterday in Worcester District Court and entered a plea of not guilty. He was released on personal recognizance and is due back in court on April 18, 2008, for a pre-trial conference.

This case is being prosecuted by Assistant Attorney General Matthew Shea, of Attorney General Martha Coakley’s Criminal Bureau, with assistance from Massachusetts State Police assigned to the Attorney General’s Office.
