Colorado Rockies Reassign Five to Minor Leagues
Colorado Rockies Transactions for March 11
03/11/2008, TUCSON, Ariz. -- The Colorado Rockies announced today that the following players have been reassigned to minor league camp: infielders Christian Colonel and Chris Nelson, outfielders Dexter Fowler and Joe Gaetti, and catcher Neil Wilson. All five players were non-roster invitees to major league spring training camp.
Colonel, 26, appeared in six Cactus League games and hit .250 (2-for-8) with two RBI. He spent time at first base, third base and left field this spring.
Fowler, 23, batted .286 (4-for-14) with a double, three RBI and two runs scored in 10 Cactus League games. He played 13 games in centerfield, including five starts overall this spring.
The 26-year-old Gaetti went 2-for-9 (.222) with an RBI in Cactus League play. He played both corner outfield positions, earning the majority of his playing time in leftfield.
Nelson, 22, hit .400 (2-for-5) in four Cactus League games. Overall, he played six games at shortstop, including two starts.
Wilson, 24, appeared in three games at catcher. He did not collect a hit in three at-bats in Cactus League play, but he did walk and score a run on Feb. 29 vs. the Mexico National Team.
The Rockies now have 48 players on the major league spring training roster, including 11 non-roster players.
