Former Chicago White Sox pitcher to replace Chris Singleton

03/04/2008, CHICAGO -- The Chicago White Sox and WSCR Radio (670 AM), the team's flagship radio station, today announced that Steve Stone will take over full-time responsibility of color analyst duties for White Sox radio broadcasts during the 2008 season. The announcement comes after former color analyst Chris Singleton informed the White Sox he will depart the broadcast booth to pursue a career in sports television.

Steve Stone, the former Cy Young Award winner, Chicago White Sox pitcher and Chicago Cubs television color analyst, will team with play-by-play announcer, and also former White Sox pitcher, Ed Farmer in 2008. Farmer enters his 17th year in the White Sox radio booth.

"We are absolutely ecstatic about Steve Stone stepping-in as color analyst in the White Sox radio booth in 2008," said Brooks Boyer, White Sox vice president and chief marketing officer. "It is bittersweet to see Chris Singleton leave, but we are excited for him in his new endeavor. We are equally thrilled to have a Chicago legend and professional like Steve join Ed Farmer in the radio booth."

"I am extremely thrilled about joining the White Sox radio booth for the 2008 season," said Stone. "I wish Chris Singleton the best of luck in his new role. He is an exceptionally talented broadcaster and will be a great success. I take great pleasure in having the opportunity to fulfill his commitment to the White Sox in 2008."

Earlier this offseason, the White Sox and WSCR Radio announced that Stone would join the White Sox radio booth during Friday home games throughout the season. Stone will now participate in a full regular season broadcast schedule in 2008.

"Steve Stone's addition to the radio booth only promises to enhance another exciting year of White Sox baseball on WSCR," said Mitch Rosen, program director WSCR Radio. "When we learned of Chris's new opportunity, WSCR and the White Sox quickly reached out Steve to help complete the radio booth. Steve graciously and enthusiastically accepted."

The first broadcast for the new White Sox radio team of Ed Farmer and Steve Stone will be a spring training game vs. Arizona on March 7.
