NPR News "Election 2008" Offers Live On-Air, Online Coverage of March 4 Primaries

Coverage Begins 10:00PM (ET) with Robert Siegel and Melissa Block Anchor and Reporters in Key Primary States and with Candidates

Washington, D.C.; March 3, 2008 – NPR News will offer live comprehensive broadcast and webcast coverage of the March 4 primaries starting at 10:00 PM (ET) with NPR newsmagazine All Things Considered hosts Robert Siegel and Melissa Block as anchors.

The special is slated to conclude at 11:00 PM (ET). Voters in Texas, Ohio, Rhode Island and Vermont will be participating in this round of primaries and the results from this critical day of primaries may determine the Democratic nominee for President. NPR News coverage will air on NPR Member stations around the country. It can also be streamed free and live from NPR.org as well as from the websites of many stations. Siegel and Block are senior host and host, respectively, of the NPR newsmagazine All Things Considered. Reporting from key primary states and traveling with the candidates are Linda Wertheimer, Don Gonyea, David Greene and Scott Horsley. Providing analysis will be NPR News Washington editors Ron Elving and Ken Rudin and E.J. Dionne, senior fellow at the Brookings Institution and columnist for the Washington Post; Weekly Standard associate editor Matt Continetti; and Andy Kohut, president of the Pew Research Center.

The March 5 edition of NPR News' Talk of the Nation program will offer two hours of live call-in questions from listeners and additional coverage and analysis of the races.

The March 4 primary special follows 17 hours of NPR News "Election 2008” special election programming. NPR News and NPR.org are offering extensive journalism and information about the presidential race. At NPR.org, the NPR-The NewsHour Interactive Map – co-produced by NPR and PBS’ the Online NewsHour – provides in-depth election news and features aggregated from resources across public media, including extensive contributions from NPR and PBS Member stations. The map also provides a calendar of the primaries, historical voting information for each state and links to state-by-state local stories through Member stations’ websites.
