Cris Carter Joins ESPN as NFL Analyst
Former All Pro Wide Receiver to Appear on NFL Live, SportsCenter, ESPNEWS and Contribute to ESPN Radio
ebruary 26, 2008 -- Former All Pro wide receiver Cris Carter has joined ESPN as an NFL studio analyst and will appear on NFL Live, SportsCenter and ESPNEWS, among other programs. As part of his multiplatform role, the 16-year NFL veteran will also contribute analysis on ESPN Radio and be part of ESPN’s 2008 NFL Draft coverage. Carter will begin April 1. He will also participate in ESPN The Weekend this weekend (February 29 – March 2) at Walt Disney World Resort.
One of the most prolific pass receivers in NFL history, Carter played for the Philadelphia Eagles (1987-89), Minnesota Vikings (1990-2001) and Miami Dolphins (2002). He finished his career as the NFL’s second all-time leading receiver with 1,101 receptions for 13,899 yards and 130 touchdowns, which ranked second-most in NFL history. A member of the NFL’s All-Decade Team of the 1990s, Carter led the NFL in receiving three times (1995, ’97 and ’99) and he led the league with 122 receptions in 1994. The eight-time Pro Bowl selection also recorded 42 100-yard receiving games during his career and had 10 or more touchdowns in a season six times. Carter was one of 15 finalists for the Pro Football Hall of Fame class of 2008.

Added Carter: “I am very excited to be joining ESPN and their talented group of NFL analysts. I have always felt connected to ESPN since they gave me an opportunity to do some television work during my playing career, and even while working at HBO, I have always admired and respected how they do things. I look forward to getting started in April.”
Carter entered the NFL as a fourth round pick of the Philadelphia Eagles in the 1987 supplemental draft from Ohio State University. He signed as a free agent with the Minnesota Vikings in 1990 and his career took off. Over the next 12 years, Carter led the Vikings in receptions 10 straight seasons (1991-2000) and recorded eight consecutive 1,000-yard seasons. His top year as a pro was 1995 when he finished with 122 catches, a career-high 1,371 yards and 17 touchdowns. When he retired in 2001, Carter held or shared 19 Vikings team records. The franchise later retired his No. 80.
Carter has worked as an analyst on HBO’s Inside the NFL. For the last seven years, Cris and his brother John have owned Carter Brothers, an electronic fire and security company. Carter is also a faculty member and assistant coach at St. Thomas Aquinas High School in South Florida, where his son plays wide receiver and his daughter plays soccer.
Carter is the latest addition to ESPN’s impressive roster of NFL studio analysts, which includes Mike Ditka, Merril Hoge, Tom Jackson, Keyshawn Johnson, Mark Schlereth, Emmitt Smith, Steve Young and others.
