Bill McGurn Appointed Vice President, News Corporation
New York, NY, February 25, 2008 – News Corporation announced today that former White House chief speechwriter Bill McGurn has been appointed a vice president of the Company.
In his new role, Mr. McGurn, 49, will oversee major speeches and contribute to News Corp. publications.
The appointment marks a return to News Corporation where Mr. McGurn had previously served as a speechwriter for Chairman and CEO Rupert Murdoch, who commented: “Bill made a financial sacrifice to serve our country in a time of war, and I am delighted to welcome him back.”
Mr. McGurn spent the past three years as chief speechwriter for President Bush, where he directed a team that included six other speechwriters, and was responsible for all the President’s public speeches.
Before joining News Corp., Mr. McGurn had a long career in journalism at Dow Jones that included postings in Europe and Asia, as well as a stint as chief editorial writer for The Wall Street Journal.
Mr. McGurn said: “Most of my life has been spent with newspapers. I’m excited to be back with the most dynamic media company in the world, which is transforming the news business for the 21st century. I look forward to working with Mr. Murdoch, and helping in any way I can.”
