2/20/2008 -- Seattle Mariners fans will find an action packed schedule of special events on tap for the 2008 season including what may become the next great follicle-related event--J.J. Putz Soul Patch Night. Single game tickets for the 2008 season go on sale Saturday, March 1, through all the usual outlets. Fans who purchase tickets before March 29, will save $1-$2 on the price of all regular season seats. Information about Mariners 2008 ticket prices is available at Mariners.com.
Opening Day
The Mariners 2008 season gets underway on Monday, March 31, with a special Opening Day start time of 3:40pm vs. the Texas Rangers. All fans will receive the traditional Mariners magnetic schedule.
Game 2, on Tuesday, April 1, is Salute to Armed Forces Night. Twenty-thousand fans will receive a commemorative coin courtesy of The Boeing Company and 570 KVI. April 1 also marks the first of 13 Military Discount Nights. Current members of the U.S. Military with I.D. can purchase half-price View Reserved tickets for every Tuesday home game.
Soul Man
One of the new special events on tap for this season is J.J. Putz Soul Patch Night on Saturday, April 12, vs. the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim (6:10pm start). The first 20,000 fans through the gates will receive a "stick-on" version of the tuft of facial hair sported by the Mariners flame-throwing closer.
Bobbleheads Are Back
Friday, April 25, is the first bobblehead giveaway. The first 25,000 fans in attendance will receive an Ichiro bobblehead. Game time is 7:10pm for the match-up vs. the Oakland Athletics. Other bobbleheads in the series include J.J. Putz (May 16, vs. San Diego Padres), Adrian Beltre (June 13, vs. Washington Nationals), Felix Hernandez (July 18, vs. Cleveland Indians) and Yuniesky Betancourt (August 8, vs. Tampa Bay Rays). Like last year, the five individual bobbleheads are designed to fit together to create one "super" bobblehead that features icons of Puget Sound area attractions such as Mt. Rainier and the Pike Place Market in the background.
Add to Your Collection
In addition to bobbleheads, a couple of other "legacy" collectibles are back on the schedule for 2008. The next edition of the Mariners Express Train Car series is the J.J. Putz "Flamethrower" Express on Friday, May 30, vs. Detroit Tigers. The first 20,000 fans receive a die cast train car courtesy of Pepsi and Fred Meyer. Fans can also add to their collections on Friday, August 1, with the Adrian Beltre "Golden Boat" Hydro, a tribute to Beltre's 2007 Golden Glove Award for defensive prowess. The first 20,000 fans in attendance will receive a hydro.
Just for Kids
The annual Salute to Kids Weekend rounds out the month of April with all kids 14 and younger receiving Raul Ibañez (Saturday, April 26) and Felix Hernandez (Sunday, April 27) replica jersey T-shirts courtesy of Boeing. There are five Little League and Youth Baseball dates on the schedule and three post-game opportunities for kids to run around the bases. The Mariners help send kids back to school in style with Lunch Box Night (Friday, August 22) and Backpack Night (Saturday, August 23). The season concludes with the always-popular Kids Appreciation Day on Sunday, September 28, where all kids 14 and younger have the chance to win great prizes throughout the game.
Just for Older Kids
Dawgs, Cougs, Eagles, Vikings and other college students and alums can buy half-price View Reserved tickets (greater discounts available for groups of 25 or more) for four College Nights (Thursday, April 24; Thursday, May 8; Thursday, August 21; Thursday, September 25). Singles can mix and mingle during two Singles Nights (Saturday, July 5, and Saturday, August 9), and women fans get the red carpet treatment on Girls Night Out (Thursday, July 3).
Turn Back The Clock
The Mariners again pay tribute to a season of yesteryear when we Turn Back the Clock to the 1980s on Saturday, July 19, vs. the Cleveland Indians. The Mariners will wear V-neck pullover tops with Mariners in blue and gold across the chest and royal blue caps with a gold S. The Indians will wear uniforms featured in the movie Major League. Fans are encouraged to wear their vintage 80s attire.
Stitch 'n Pitch
The Fourth Annual Stitch 'n Pitch is on tap for Thursday, August 7, vs. Tampa Bay Rays. Stitch 'n Pitch combines two of America's favorite pastimes-knitting and baseball. It started at Safeco Field in 2005 and has spread to nearly every Major League ballpark.
