Cleveland Indians Announce High Achievers Kids Club
Cleveland Indians launch online educational program for grades K-8; NE Ohio area students rewarded for academic excellence and positive efforts
02/21/2008, CLEVELAND -- The Cleveland Indians today announced the 2008 Indians High Achievers Kids Club, presented by KeyBank, with support from the Plain Dealer. The Indians organization is committed to encouraging students to reach their full potential and help foster self-confidence in the youth of Northeast Ohio. The Cleveland Indians High Achievers Kids Club will provide an opportunity for students to be rewarded with tickets and other great prizes for positive efforts and academic success.
The Indians High Achievers Kids Club Program is a combination of community outreach programs that were conducted in the past-- the former Indians Kids Club, High Achievers, Newspaper in Education, and the Grand Slam Literacy Program. The goal of this newly developed online venture-which is FREE TO STUDENTS IN GRADES K-8-is to give an outlet for Northeast Ohio students to have fun through learning with a focus on education and citizenship.
As the official Indians High Achievers Kids Club spokesmen, Indians Manager Eric Wedge, along with help from 1B Ryan Garko, will support the educational component of this Indians Community Outreach initiative. Each will play a significant role by visiting schools and the sharing the message of the importance of working hard in school, teamwork, and sportsmanship.
"As a parent, I know there's no greater investment we can make in life than to provide great opportunities for our kids", said Indians Manager, Eric Wedge. "Whether in the classroom or on the baseball field, I have found that a key method to achieving success is inclusion in a team and sense of pride in accomplishment. The Indians High Achievers Kids Club is an opportunity to provide this very foundation for kids."
