San Francisco Giants Add Five Area Scouts
02/12/2008, SAN FRANCISCO -- The San Francisco Giants have added Ray Callari, Brad Cameron, Lou Colletti, Chuck Hensley and Hugh Walker to their scouting staff, club special assistant to the general manager John Barr announced today.
Callari, who served as an area scout for the Cincinnati Reds from 2003-06, will be a scout in Canada. The former Montreal Expos farmhand also serves as the infield coach/recruiting coordinator for The Academy of Baseball of Canada.
Cameron, who started his scouting career in 1990 with the Baltimore Orioles, will cover the Southern California area for the Giants this season. He has spent the past four years scouting in Central and Southern California for the Pirates. Aside from the Orioles and Pirates, Cameron has also scouted for Cleveland and Minnesota.
Colletti assumes a full-time scouting role after serving as a part-time scout and assistant coach with the Giants Arizona Rookie League team for the last two seasons. The Philadelphia, PA native will serve as the area scout for Illinois, Iowa, Minnesota, North Dakota, South Dakota and Wisconsin. The Elmhurst College graduate is the son of former Giants executive and current Dodgers general manager Ned Colletti.
Hensley, a University of California-Berkeley product, will cover Arizona, Colorado, New Mexico and Utah for the Giants. He served as a scout for the New York Mets in California for ten years. The Erie, Colorado resident has spent the last two years as the owner of the sports agency Owned StrikeOne Sports, LLC.
Walker, a former first round pick of the Kansas City Royals in 1988, will scout for the Giants in Arkansas, Kansas, Missouri and Nebraska. After playing professionally in the Royals and Braves minor league organizations, he has spent seven years as a coach at Nettleton High School in Arkansas surrounded by a stint as a hitting instructor for the Royals chain in 2001.
