California Governor Schwarzenegger Issues Statement on Death of Los Angeles Police Department Officer Randal Simmons
02/07/2008 -- California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger today released the following statement regarding the death of Los Angeles Police Department Officer Randal Simmons of Palos Verdes, CA:
"Maria and I are deeply saddened by the loss of Officer Randal Simmons, who valiantly dedicated his life to protecting the people of California. Our brave officers do an incredible job putting their lives on the line every day to keep the rest of us safe. Our thoughts and prayers are with Officer Simmons' family and the brave men and women of the Los Angeles Police Department as they mourn the loss of a true hero."
Simmons, 51, died Feb. 7 as a result of wounds sustained from a gunshot when he and other officers were attempting to arrest a suspect in a home in the San Fernando Valley. He served with the Los Angeles Police Department for 27 years. He is survived by his wife and two children.
In honor of Officer Simmons, Capitol flags will be flown at half-staff.
