Alabama’s New Voting System Performed Well on Super Tuesday
February 06, 2008 -- MONTGOMERY - Voting during Alabama’s Super Tuesday primaries went smoothly and efficiently all across the state as Alabama’s new voter registration system got its first real-life test.
Alabama Governor Bob Riley, who, as Special Master, was put in charge of making the state compliant with the federal Help America Vote Act by U.S. Federal Judge Keith Watkins, said the lack of significant problems - even in the wake of Tuesday’s record voter turnout - shows the new system works very well. No county reported significant system problems and most problems that were reported were not related to the new voter registration system.
“A lot of people worked hard to bring Alabama into compliance and I want to thank them for their efforts, including members of our HAVA Implementation Committee, Secretary of State Beth Chapman and her staff, probate judges and their staffs, and all our registrars and circuit clerks in all 67 counties of Alabama,” said Governor Riley.
