Tom Bergeron to Host Supper Club, a New Planet Green Series
February 3, 2008, Silver Spring, MD -- Planet Green has inked a deal with Emmy Award-winning Tom Bergeron, host of ABC’s hit series, Dancing with the Stars, to host the new original series, SUPPER CLUB, starting production in March. Planet Green, Discovery Communications’ new 24/7 eco-lifestyle television network, is set to launch in June 2008 with a full slate of original series and specials. Tom Bergeron will play host to some of the most provocative and entertaining guests as he brings together film, television and music stars, along with renowned authors, politicians, journalists and scholars, to discuss and debate all topics "green."
Filmed at Kelly and Ron Meyers celebrated eco-friendly home in Venice, California, SUPPER CLUB lets viewers are a fly on the wall at a Hollywood dinner party. Each week, Tom hosts a fabulous dinner party alongside a celebrity chef who cooks up a green meal, while four special celebrity guests break bread and discuss the latest news and events in the green movement. From people and issues in the news to green trends and tips, to movies and books, Bergeron and guests cover topics ranging from the environment to the presidential race to the best and worst green actions of the year by individuals, governments and corporations. Along the way, viewers learn about wines, recipes and a wide range of other tips for entertaining in an ecologically responsible way.
SUPPER CLUB reunites Bergeron with executive producer, Andy Friendly. Friendly hired Bergeron as host of Hollywood Squares in 1998 and again in 2004 for ABC’s Countdown to the Emmys. Last year, Friendly came to Planet Green as a development consultant and executive producer to develop programming for the network’s launch.
"I'm thrilled to be working with my longtime colleague and friend, Tom Bergeron, on this exciting new project for Planet Green," said Friendly. "Tom's experience, wit and intellect make him the perfect choice to lead this informative and entertaining weekly discussion of the topics, people and events at the forefront of the green movement worldwide."
Bergeron began his broadcasting career in 1972 in Massachusetts, and over the years has grown to national recognition through stints on ABC’s Good Morning America, CBS’s The Early Show, Fox’s Fox after Breakfast, Hollywood Squares and America’s Funniest Home Videos. Over the past few years, he’s been the charming host of Dancing with the Stars.
SUPPER CLUB is a weekly primetime series produced for Planet Green by Andy Friendly Productions in association with Discovery Studios. Andy Friendly and Pam Burke are executive producers. Timothy Kuryak, vice president of production for Planet Green, will oversee production for the network.
