Toronto Blue Jays Sign Alex Rios
02/05/2008 -- The Toronto Blue Jays have agreed to a one-year contract with OF Alex Rios worth $4.835 million (US).
Alex Rios, 26, originally selected 19th overall in the June 1999 draft, has spent all four seasons of his Major League career with the Toronto Blue Jays. In 161 games last season, the Guaynabo, Puerto Rico native posted career highs in most offensive categories, including 43 doubles, seven triples, 24 home runs and 85 RBI.
Alex Rios led the club in at-bats (643), runs (114), hits (191), total bases (320), triples, stolen bases (17) and slugging percentage (.498).
The 6'5", 194 lb. right-handed hitter has now appeared in consecutive All-Star games, and is the first Blue Jay to accomplish the feat since Roberto Alomar appeared in five straight from 1991-95.
