"Super Saturdays" Series Returns for 2008 Florida Marlins Season with All-Star Concert Lineup
Concerts feature even more of Marlins fans' favorite international performers
02/05/2008, MIAMI -- The Florida Marlins announced today the much-anticipated return of "Super Saturdays" for the 2008 season. Each of the 13 Saturday home games will be designated as a "Super Saturday". The highlight of each "Super Saturday" will be a post-game concert featuring internationally acclaimed recording artists as well as a fireworks spectacular. The concert and fireworks are free with each ticket purchased for the Marlins game that night. In addition, the Marlins are featuring a special 16-game Super Saturdays ticket plan, which includes discounted pricing on tickets to all 13 home Super Saturdays, Opening Day (March 31), Closing Day (Sept. 28) and the Marlins vs. Yankees exhibition game on March 29.
Super Saturdays will also feature:
• Pregame parties at The Strike Zone at Gate H featuring DJ M-Dot (the official DJ of the Florida Marlins), celebrity appearances, marching bands, Billy The Marlin, the Mermaids, special prizes and live TV/radio broadcasts
• Parking lot giveaways for the first 5,000 cars
• Interactive giveaways for the first 15,000 fans
• An enhanced game presentation featuring new Super Saturdays host Johanna Gomez and multiple premium giveaways
Here's a look at the scheduled performers for the first seven Super Saturdays:
April 5- Bret Michaels of Poison
As front man for the legendary rock band Poison, Michaels has sold 25 million records and scored an amazing 15 chartbusting Top 40 singles including "Talk Dirty to Me," "Something to Believe In," "Nothing But a Good Time" and the timeless #1 smash "Every Rose Has its Thorn". Michaels released his debut solo album "Songs of Life" in 2003 followed by the rootsy, Americana flavored sophomore record "Freedom of Sound" in 2005.
April 19 - Hansel y Raul Reunion
Cuban artists Hansel Enrique Martinez and Raul Alfonso will take the stage for the first time since going solo in the late 1990's. Their professional musical careers began in 1976 in New York City with the world famous Charanga 76' as vocalists and co-founders of the band. Their music was based on a sophisticated version of tropical dance music that emphasizes strings and woodwinds rather than brass. Hansel & Raul decided to separate in 1988 but reunited in 1996 for a new collaboration, "Celebrando", which became one of their top selling albums of all time.
May 3 - El Gran Combo de Puerto Rico
Led by pianist and musical director, Rafael Ithier, El Gran Combo is one of Puerto Rico's greatest dance bands and winner of a 2007 Latin Grammy for Best Salsa Album of the Year for Arroz Con Habichuela. Four decades after their inception, the 13-piece group continues to inspire dancers with its horn-punctuated Latin rhythms and lush vocal harmonies.
May 17 - Paul Rodgers of Bad Company
Paul Rodgers, is an English rock singer-songwriter best known for being a member of Free and Bad Company. Both bands experienced big international success in the 1970s. Before establishing a career as a solo artist, he was also a member of The Firm and The Law. He has recently toured and recorded with Queen.
May 24 - Freestyle Flashback with Stevie B. and Lisa Lisa
Stevie B, "The King of Freestyle," is an African-American singer, songwriter and record producer of Cuban descent that was highly influential in the Latin freestyle and Miami dance music scene of the late 1980s. His first dance hit was "Party Your Body in 1987, and followed with top 40 hits like "In My Eyes," I Wanna Be The One," "I'm Dreamin' of Love," and "Spring Love," the hit that earned him a Gold Record.
Lisa Lisa and her band Cult Jam were one of the original American Latin freestyle groups of the 1980s with hit songs like "I Wonder If I Take You Home" and "Can You Feel The Heat." Lisa Lisa also released a solo album called LL 77 in 1994 and her second solo album in 2007.
June 7 - Willy Chirino
Multiple Latin Grammy Award nominee Willy Chirino combines the musical traditions of Cuba with American rock and jazz. The South Florida-based vocalist and bandleader has composed more than one hundred songs. Chirino's material has been covered by a lengthy list of artists including Celia Cruz, Oscar D'Leon and Nydia Caro. In 1995, a section of NW 17th Avenue in Miami was christened "Willy Chirino Way". His latest album, 25 Aniversario, was released in 2006.
June 30 - KC & the Sunshine Band
KC & The Sunshine Band is still as widely popular as they were when they danced into the music scene over 30 years ago. Harry Wayne Casey-KC for short, -- developed a unique fusion of R&B and Funk, with a hint of Latin Percussion Groove to bring fans hits like "Get Down Tonight", That's The Way (I like It), and Shake Your Booty.
The acts for the final six (post All-Star Game) Super Saturday concerts will be announced at a future date.
The 16-Game Packages for the 13 home Super Saturdays games plus Opening & Closing day and Marlins vs. Yankees Exhibition game tickets start at just $165. Individual advanced tickets for Super Saturdays start at just $12. Super Saturdays are also included in 83, 41 and 30 Game Plans. All Super Saturday tickets include game tickets, pre-game festivities and post-game concert and fireworks show.
