Missouri Governor Blunt Secures Federal Assistance in Response to Winter Storm
Governor Announces Nine Counties Receive Public Assistance
February 5, 2008 -- JEFFERSON CITY– Missouri Governor Matt Blunt announced President George W. Bush approved his request for nine Counties to receive Disaster Public Assistance for the January 2008 severe storms, tornadoes, and flooding in Southwest and South Central Missouri.
“I appreciate the president’s prompt response to my request for federal assistance,” Gov. Blunt said. “This declaration is good news for our local communities that were impacted by the unprecedented January tornados and flooding.”
The nine counties approved for the Disaster Declaration for Public Assistance are: Barry, Dallas, Laclede, Maries, McDonald, Newton, Phelps, Stone and Webster.
The State Emergency Management Agency will notify local officials about meetings designed to explain the public assistance process and allow local jurisdictions to submit their Request for Public Assistance.
The presidential declaration for public assistance means federal and state assistance will be available to help local governments in the nine counties identified recover eligible costs for debris removal operations and emergency protective measures, and other infrastructure damages. Gov. Blunt’s request identified over $8.2 million in damages to our roads, bridges and infrastructure.
