Sales of 'Flavor Of Life' by Japan's Utada Hikaru Pass 7.5 Million
Song, confirmed as one of the top global digital sellers of 2007, contributes to 12 million digital sales for Utada Hikaru over the year
Tokyo, 31 January, 2008 – Sales of Flavor Of Life by Japanese superstar Utada Hikaru have now exceeded 7.5 million units across all digital products and formats - ringtunes, full track mobile downloads, fixed line downloads (including DRM-free downloads), ring videos and ringback tones. The hit single was recently confirmed as the second most successful digital track worldwide last year by IFPI in their latest Digital Music Report with sales of 7.2 million in the 12 months to November 2007, just behind Avril Lavigne’s Girlfriend which sold 7.3 million.
The huge success of Flavor Of Life contributed to total digital sales for Utada Hikaru during 2007 of almost 12 million units. According to Oricon, who compile the Japanese charts, Flavor Of Life has also sold 644,000 physical units, making it the number two single of the year in terms of physical sales.
JF Cecillon, president, EMI Music International Labels, said: “2007 was yet another amazing year for Utada Hikaru and 7.5 million digital sales of Flavor Of Life is a fantastic achievement.”

Utada Hikaru debut album, First Love, is the best selling album ever in Japan with sales now standing at just under 10 million. To mark the 10th anniversary of the release of her first single, Automatic, in December EMI Music Japan made a free download of the song available for four days. In that time it was downloaded 500,000 times.
EMI Music Japan will release Utada Hikaru’s new single HEART STATION /Stay Gold on 20 February followed by her new album HEART STATION on 19 March.
