Baltimore Orioles Sign Four More Players
01/28/2008 -- The Baltimore Orioles today announced that four players -- RHP RANDOR BIERD, RHP ROCKY CHERRY, RHP FREDDY DEZA and RHP RADHAMES LIZ -- have agreed to terms on one-year contracts for the 2008 season.
Bierd, selected from Detroit in the Rule 5 draft in December, combined to go 4-3 with a 2.93 ERA in 42 games between Class A West Michigan and AA Erie last season.
Cherry, acquired from the Chicago Cubs on August 31 in the Steve Trachsel trade, combined to go 1-1 with a 5.46 ERA in 22 games between the Cubs and Orioles after beginning the season with AAA Iowa.
Deza was 7-8 with a 4.43 ERA in 36 games for AA Bowie. Liz, the Orioles' 2007 Jim Palmer Minor League Pitcher of the Year award winner, went 11-4 with a 3.22 ERA in 25 starts for Bowie before a late August promotion to the Orioles, where he went 2-3 with a 7.59 ERA in 10 games.
