Senator Specter Reacts to the President’s State of the Union Address
Washington, D.C. -- January 28, 2008 -- U.S. Senator Arlen Specter (R-Pa.) made the following comments after President Bush’s State of the Union Address tonight:
“The President’s speech demonstrated that he is not easing off in his final year but continues to push important initiatives: prompt passage of the economic stimulus package; action against greenhouse gases and global warming; and protection for homeowners on the subprime issue.
“I especially liked his emphasis on completing the Israeli-Palestinian Peace Treaty by the end of the year.
“While I applaud his call for more funding for basic scientific research, I would have liked equal emphasis on more appropriations for NIH, including embryonic stem cell research.”
